The research projects I lead or contribute to, from evidence synthesis for humanitarian organizations and long-run panel data in Kenya to the transparency of economics itself. For papers and manuscripts, see Publications.

Lead Researcher

Evidence Synthesis for the Impact Alliance

2026 – Present

CEGA, UC Berkeley · with CARE, Save the Children & Mercy Corps

  • Designed and built an LLM-integrated evidence synthesis pipeline that retrieves, screens, extracts, and appraises peer-reviewed literature on nutrition interventions for children under five and women of reproductive age in low- and middle-income countries.
  • Screened ~2,000 retrieved studies to 496 on-topic records; produced structured appraisals of 23 interventions tiered by evidence strength, cost-effectiveness, and scalability.
  • Built an automated claim verifier tracing every numeric claim in synthesis output to a source record, plus an independent hand-verification protocol that surfaced 33 substantive corrections, establishing that source traceability does not guarantee fidelity of population, comparator, or certainty rating.
  • Delivered a PICOS-structured deep dive on three partner-prioritized interventions (community-based management of acute malnutrition, breastfeeding support, antenatal multiple micronutrient supplementation) and a policy memo for Impact Alliance country directors and government-facing staff.
  • In progress: extending the pipeline to a country-level evidence base linking intervention evidence to national malnutrition burden and health system infrastructure data.

Co-Investigator

Reporting Guidelines and Publication Bias

Aug 2024 – Present

BITSS, UC Berkeley · PI: Fernando Hoces

  • Reviewed, synthesized, and encoded 100+ AEA RCT registrations against published materials to assess reporting practices and potential publication bias.
  • Co-authoring paper with Edward Miguel, Fernando Hoces, Erik Sørensen, & Bertil Tungodden on missing results in Economics.
  • Contributing to development of a practical pre-registration tool to improve registration quality and promote transparent research workflows.

Kenya Life Panel Survey (KLPS)

Aug 2024 – Present

CEGA, UC Berkeley · PIs: Edward Miguel, Michael Walker

  • Managing and analyzing longitudinal panel data across multiple KLPS waves; monitoring response and tracking rates for the ongoing KLPS-5 field survey in Kenya.
  • Building large-scale merging, cleaning, and validation pipelines in R and Stata; developing modular, reusable code for econometric analyses.
  • Contributing to a KLPS cohort profile with descriptive documentation and geographic maps summarizing multi-decade survey coverage.

Co-Author

First-Born Daughters Increase Mothers’ Desired Number of Daughters

2024 – Present

University of San Francisco · with J. K. Anttila-Hughes, L. Borden, L. Lamson & A. S. Jina

  • Co-author on a multi-country study using exogenous variation in the sex of first birth to identify the effect of child gender on parental fertility preferences.
  • Analyzed survey data from 90,000+ first-time mothers and 30,000+ first-time fathers to compare how each updates their fertility preferences.
